It was over 100 degrees in Portland yesterday. For those of you who know even a little bit about the Pacific Northwest, those temperatures are mildly unheard of and not so pleasant in these parts. So, where did we go?

The Coast, of course. It was almost 90 degrees at Cannon Beach, not a cloud in the sky, and NO WIND! It was a rare beautiful day at the coast. So we slept in on Saturday morning, ate some pancakes, packed up some towels, books and boats (the boys wanted to playboat in the waves), grabbed the dog and made our way westward to the Pacific.
After living in a place that doesn't see the sun for 8 to 9 months of the year, I am very, very, very pale. I slathered on the SPF 45 and finally got some sun! I am now a nice shade of brown on the front, and splattered red on the back. Hey, I'll take what I can get.
We really had a great time. It was so nice to be in the wide open beach, soaking in the much-missed sun. Here's some pictures from the day:
This is Ryan, one of Erik's good kayaking buddies. He was at the beach with his girlfriend, Sarah & the guys hooked up for some paddling:

And here's Matt out in the waves:

And me, of course:

So, there you have it. Our first trip to the coast this summer. Many more to come, I'm sure of it. I hope all of you had a weekend as good & relaxing as ours.
